When Sunshine and Kisses Aren't Enough: Healthcare Blogs

In some cases, when you're not feeling well, a bit of sleep and some orange juice can clear up what ails you. If a child gets a small injury, a kiss can often do the trick. However, when nature's solutions and tender loving care don't cut it -- you need a health care clinic that you can trust. Hi, my name is Pam, and while raising four kids, I dealt with numerous health issues from the common cold, to broken bones, to a chronic autoimmune disorder with my youngest. Our family health care center was essential during that process, and I want to share tips and ideas with others who may be in the same situations.

3 Topical Joint Pain Relief Options

Although many people take oral medications for their joint pain, this option does not always work. Luckily, there is another option: topical joint pain relief treatments. The following are just three of the most common options to explore.

1. Aspirin Cream

People think of aspirin as an oral medication, but there are topical preparations of this medication, too, and they tend to be really good for managing joint pain. Aspirin is an NSAID — a non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drug. It relieves inflammation, and it also relieves pain. Since most joint pain is either entirely caused or made worse by inflammation in the joint, applying an NSAID can be really helpful.

Aspirin cream can be rubbed into your painful joints every 6 hours or so. It'll bring relief within a few minutes, and the relief keeps building for a half-hour or so. Aspirin cream can be really harsh on dry or damaged skin, so avoid this treatment option if your skin is in poor shape.

2. CBD Products

CBD has become really popular over the past few years. People use it to manage everything from anxiety to headaches. For most of these purposes, consumers take it orally; this method will probably give you some relief from joint pain. However, you can also apply CBD lotion to your sore joints for topical relief. For best results, look for a lotion that contains full-spectrum hemp oil, which not only contains CBD but also other hemp compounds.

If you cannot find CBD lotion, then look for CBD oil. You can blend a few drops with a little of your regular lotion and then apply the mixture to your sore joints. Use it two or three times per day for ongoing relief.

3. Capsaicin Cream

If you have more severe arthritis that has progressed to the point of causing marked stiffness along with the pain, then a good topical option to consider is capsaicin cream. Capsaicin increases circulation and loosens up joints while also helping to reduce pain. It will make your hands feel hot after you apply it, but you can avoid this if you wash your hands immediately after application. You can apply capsaicin cream as often as needed throughout the day. Most people find the effects last at least 4 or 5 hours.
